How to choose the right scissor lift
Slab or rough terrain is a ground question
Slab machines have small solid tires, minimal ground clearance and are designed for a finished floor or a properly compacted surface. Rough terrain machines are four-wheel drive with lugged tires and roughly a foot of clearance. A freshly graded pad looks finished long before it behaves like one, and after rain a slab machine will not move.
Width decides whether it gets through the door
A 19 ft narrow machine is around 30 inches wide and fits a standard doorway. Step up to 32 ft and above and the deck is typically 46 inches or more. Measure the narrowest point on the route, not the widest.
Platform height is not reach
A 26 ft scissor lift puts the platform floor at 26 ft, so working height is about 32 ft. Buy the machine for the height your hands need to be, not the height of the ceiling.

Is it cheaper to rent by the week?
- Substantially. Across Texas listings a week costs about two and a half day rates and four weeks about five, so the effective cost per day roughly halves on a weekly hire. If the job is five days or more, ask for the weekly rate rather than five daily ones, and most suppliers will apply it automatically, but not all of them.
What does the rate not include?
- Delivery and collection, fuel, the transport surcharge most suppliers index to the diesel price, the rental protection plan at around 15% unless you supply a compliant certificate of insurance, and tax. Our estimator adds delivery, protection and tax so you can see the real number rather than the headline one.
How is scissor lift rental taxed in Texas?

Do I need a certified operator?
- A scissor lift with its guardrails up and the gate closed is a working platform, and guardrails are the fall protection, so a harness is generally not required, which is the opposite of the rule on a boom lift.
